Kano Begins New Land Registration System

The process anchored by Growth and Empowerment in State (GEMS3) and funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) involves demographic data mapping of valuable property in the state.
The project is targeted to generate N1 billion from the issuance of SLTR certificates in three local councils of the state.
Speaking at awareness forum organised for journalists, GEMS3 media adviser Hajia Hadiza Abdullahi explained that SLTR was initiated to simplify multiple processes being faced by thousands of property owners before securing the traditional Cof O.
She added that the new systemic certificate offers limitless economic and investment viabilities at low-cost charges.
Abdullahi, who described the new process as valid and possess same authority with the traditional C of C. She said the SLTR has security of tenure, guarantee inheritance right and assured investment opportunity.
She therefore, urged land and property owners in Kano to avail themselves with the SLTR to guaranty investment opportunity on their valuables.
“Before the recent extension of its demographic data mapping to Tarauni local government, a pilot scheme of SLTR was launched in Dala and Fagge local government areas of the state with 30,000 certificates already issued to land owners.
“The SLTR Certificate of Occupancy, being issued at the cost of N5, 000 was targeted at create alternative mean to the cumbersome process of the sporadic approach required for the collection of traditional certificate of Occupancy”, she added.
