BETTER DAYS AHEAD FOR IKEJA RESIDENTS AS LG SET TO UPGRADE ROADS


The Executive Secretary Ikeja Local Government, Mr. Adekunle Dally-Adeokun has declared that the focal point of his administration is to ensure that necessary measures are in place to enable Ikeja take its place of pride as a corporate Local Government Area in the State.

Mr. Dally-Adeokun, who made the declaration recently while briefing newsmen on his activities, stated that the place of Ikeja as the capital city of Lagos makes it imperative for his administration to bring all to bear in harnessing the vast potentials that abound in the area and create a meaningful impact in the socio-economic life of the people.

He listed some of the developmental programmes already implemented by his administration as road construction and rehabilitation, environmental regeneration, primary education, sanitation and health facility.

 In his words, “There is no reason why Ikeja should not be among the most developed areas in Nigeria. In the last nine months that I came on board, there has been intervention in primary healthcare and primary education; efforts have been intensified in the areas of environmental sanitation and road rehabilitation in line with our mandate”.

Mr. Dally-Adeokun stated further that the intervention in the area of health care delivery system which   is geared towards orientating the people to the concept of primary healthcare has seen the four primary health centres in the area providing 24-hour uninterrupted service, pointing out that with the improved facilities and presence of resident doctors means the centres can effectively provide maternity care.

He indicated that his administration is adopting a holistic approach to primary education and ensuring that, not only are basic textbooks, desks, benches and GCE forms being provided but also that dilapidated structures are renovated and rehabilitated to create the conducive environment to learning in primary schools in the area as evidenced by the roofing of three classroom blocks at Onilekere School among others.

On road infrastructure, the Executive Secretary explained that the solar-powered street lighting and upgrading of Seriki Aro, John Akinjide, Bisi Ogabi and Afarinogun Roads to Class A surface was undertaken to improve visibility in those areas at night as well as reduce traffic congestion attributed to the hitherto bad roads while disclosing that the construction of six additional roads in the district will soon commence.

Mr Dally-Adeokun, who also unfolded plans to launch a 120-man environmental sanitation gang for a cleaner, healthier Ikeja, stated that these strategies adopted so far, have generated vast numbers of jobs for the youths in the area, adding that the effects of the projects mapped out for execution will be increasingly felt by the residents as his administration progresses into its tenure.
