Delta Workers Seek Revival of Housing Loan Scheme

The union leadership while addressing journalists in Asaba after a courtesy visit on the Head of Service (HOS) in his office, noted that the scheme had been moribund in the past two years and appealed to the state Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to look into the issues
inhibited its viability with a view to reviving it.
Chairman of the union, Tony Toki, said the scheme had in the past alleviated the burden of workers to own houses and stressed the need for proper funding.
While emphasising that workers in state have been faceing serious challenges, oki said the hash economic had negatively impacted on their monthly take home.
On the outstanding June salaries of workers from Grade Level 13 – 17, he decried the multiplier effect the development had brought
on the psyche of the workers, especially those who largely depend on it for payment of their children’s school fees and house rents.
He further appealed to the state government to remit the outstanding deductions to the various co-operative
organizations, adding that workers currently groan under the burden of economic difficulties.
Earlier, the Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Reginald Bayoko applauded the union for the matured ways it handled the issues relating to workers’ welfare in the past few months, and promised to take the issue raised to the Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
In another development, the state government has acquired about 1,000 hectares’ of land in Ebu Oshimili North Local council of the state for the cultivation of rice.
