Rivers to Demolish illegal Property at Eneka GRA

Governor Nyesom Wike
Disturbed, that illegal land developers, speculators or vendors are offering government acquired landed property to the public, the Rivers State Government has threatened immediate demolition of houses on its landed property at the proposed site of Government Residential Area (G.R.A) Phase 12 at Eneka in Obio Akpo Local Government Area.

The threats are sequent to the failure of developers and buyers to heed repeated warnings to stay away from the land acquired by government several years ago.

The Rivers state Commissioner of Housing, Emma Okah, said, the demolition has
become imperative to reclaim government’s land which it recently cleared and earmarked for development of the extension of Government Residential Area (G.R.A) Phase 12.

He has meanwhile cautioned the public to desist from buying land from illegal land developers, speculators or vendors who sell government acquired landed property.

Okah, who inspected the proposed site, condemned the rate of encroachment and construction of houses without authorisation or permit on the Eneka property.“Those buying, selling or developing land belonging to Rivers State Government should desist or they do so at their own risk and assured them that those houses will be brought down soon.

“No effort would be spared to destroy all houses built on the Eneka land, to enable the Ministry of Housing, carry out its own development plans,” he said. Such persons together with their collaborators face the chances of imprisonment for criminal trespass” he said.

He also warned those breaking into Government houses at the Iriebe Satellite Town to quiet within seven days or face the wrath of the law.

The commissioner advised the public to always clarify the status of any  land they desire to purchase through the  Ministry of Lands or the office of the Surveyor General of the State. He said it has become imperative for people to ascertain the position of any land before purchasing or consummating transaction to avoid being duped.
