Borno Plans 1,000 Homes in Bama
Borno Governor Kashim Shettima |
Under the projects, the State’s Ministry of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Resettlement (MRRR) has already moulded one million cement blocks in September, 2014 for the purpose of re-building of destroyed houses by Boko Haram insurgents.
This was disclosed by Governor Kashim Shettima while addressing troops of 21 Armoured Brigade and IDPs at Bama on rebuilding the township before displaced persons could return to their homes.
He said the state government has sufficient building materials to start rebuilding Bama Township that was destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents.
His words: “Our intention is to build 1, 000 homes in Bama, so that we can decongest Maiduguri of IDPs in camps; who are willing to settle down; until full peace is restored in the outline districts. We will not allow people to go back for now,” warning that; “We will not encourage the people in Gulumba, Banki, Dara-Jamal or any of the towns outside Bama township to go back or return for now; until peace is re-established.”
Shettima said the MRRR would start fixing the destroyed infrastructural facilities for the supply and distribution of water to the township. “We really want to start fixing the infrastructures, especially for water supply within Bama, the Local Government Secretariat, the Shehu’s palace, the Police station and barracks, and the military barracks,” said Shettima on rebuilding Bama.
