Estate Agent in Possession of Fake Lagos State Government Documents Arrested

Operatives of the Lagos State Task Force have arrested an estate agent defrauding innocent members of the public with fake Lagos State Government documents.

Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, while parading the suspect disclosed that he was apprehended after a complaint by an individual, based on a purported ‘Quit Notice’ served by the Lagos State Task Force.



SP Egbeyemi stated that after careful investigation, the document was discovered to be fake and enjoined members of the public to be wary of some dubious elements within the society whose specialty is impersonating, deceiving and duping innocent members of the public.

He further stated that a thorough search of the suspect’s residence revealed various neatly printed fake Lagos State Government documents.

He reminded innocent members of the public to always make use of the 'Lagos State Citizens Mediation Centre' under the Lagos State Ministry of Justice where matters between landlords/tenants, mutual disputes, employer/employee rifts among others are mediated.

The suspect, Mr. Sunday Obayemi, 45 years from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State confirmed after his arrest that he retired in year 2014 as a Civil Servant from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and confessed defrauding innocent members of the public.

"I have made lots of fortunes using fake documents of the Lagos State Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies in defrauding innocent members of the public", Obayemi stated.

SP Egbeyemi said that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni has directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The Task Force Chairman also revealed that1000 units of security reflective vests were donated by the management of Fan Milk Industry to support the law enforcement activities of the State government.

He disclosed that the Task Force would continue to enforce the State Environmental Sanitation Laws on Street Trading and sanction traders who display their wares indiscriminately on road setbacks and walkways.

He reiterated also that the Lagos State Road Traffic Laws of 2012 is still being enforced on commercial drivers including private car owners who obstruct free flow of traffic or drive against traffic (one-way) across the State.

The Managing Director, Fan Milk Industry, Mr. Hans Pedersen, said the company donated the 1000 units of safety reflective vests as part of the company’s social responsibility to the community.
